Engagement rate calculator
Calculate engagement by followers, video views, or reach using your own numbers. Use totals from the same posts and reporting period.
Engagement per post by followers
Total engagements ÷ number of posts ÷ followers × 100
Enter your counts and calculate to see the rate.
An engagement rate counts actions, not unique people. Rates can exceed 100% when multiple actions come from the same person or people outside the follower base engage.
Compare public engagement benchmarksWhich engagement rate formula should you use?
- By followers
- Use this for a public account comparison when reach is unavailable. Divide total engagements by the number of sampled posts, then by followers. For one post, enter 1 as the sample size.
- By views
- Use this for TikTok videos, YouTube videos, or Reels when you know their view counts. Divide combined engagements by combined views for those same videos. This weights videos by their views rather than averaging their individual percentages.
- By reach
- Use this when your own analytics provide accounts reached. Keep reach and engagement totals on the same reporting basis. Do not mix summed post reach with deduplicated account reach when comparing results.
Example calculation
If 10 posts receive 500 engagements and the account has 1,000 followers, the average engagement rate is 500 ÷ 10 ÷ 1,000 × 100 = 5%. This is a worked example, not a platform benchmark.
What is a good engagement rate?
Use a benchmark from the same network, audience tier, and formula. A rate based on followers cannot be compared directly with a rate based on views or reach. Post format, sample size, and hidden interaction counts also affect the comparison.
