Open-source is essential infrastructure for science, education, and organizations addressing some of the world's most consequential challenges.   IBM and Red Hat are expanding access to the Lightwell at no cost for 185 leading research universities and 100 NGOs and think tanks worldwide. By combining AI-driven automation with expert engineering, Lightwell helps institutions address open source vulnerabilities with validated fixes while protecting their proprietary data, code, and research.   Strengthening the security and resilience of open source is an investment in the future of discovery, innovation, and public impact. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gY9FV4ww 3,231 70As a former researcher, I continue to find breakthroughs like this inspiring. IBM and the University of Chicago have achieved a significant milestone: a trusted demonstration of quantum advantage, where a quantum computer solved a problem beyond the practical reach of leading classical methods, with verified accuracy. This achievement is about more than performance; it demonstrates trust, verification, and the steady progress that transforms scientific possibility into real-world impact. Moments like these, driven by curiosity, rigor, and collaboration, will shape the future of computing. It is exciting to see the quantum era advancing from theory to reality. 1,863 52It was an honor to join today's signing of Executive Orders establishing a coordinated national strategy for quantum computing and accelerating the shift to post-quantum cryptography. IBM applauds the Administration for taking this important, timely step forward.   Sound policy, sustained investment and public-private partnership are vital to sustaining U.S. quantum leadership and technological resilience. IBM has spent decades building toward this moment, work we've deepened alongside agencies including the U.S. Department of Commerce through our recent collaboration to launch Anderon, America's first pure-play quantum foundry. Today's Executive Orders bring that same spirit of policy and investment working in lockstep to the national stage.   We're proud to keep building on this foundation, strengthening U.S. competitiveness and bolstering national security as we shape the quantum future together. 3,743 108IBM applauds the Administration's Executive Order on AI and cybersecurity. As AI becomes more foundational to all of us, including business and government, securing it — and the open source software our society depends on — is essential to maintaining trust and ensuring U.S. leadership. Our company is committed to building and deploying AI systems responsibly. We look forward to supporting the federal effort to secure the nation's digital infrastructure, and advancing our complementary push to secure open source software for the AI era. 2,868 70Today, IBM and Red Hat are announcing Project Lightwell, a $5B commitment to tackle what we see as one of the biggest emerging challenges facing organizations today: securing and maintaining open-source software at AI scale and speed. At its core, Lightwell introduces a ‘clearinghouse’ model, a coordinated security layer that helps enterprises identify vulnerabilities and deploy validated patches across the software supply chain. IBM and Red Hat have already begun collaborating with a select group of early adopters on Project Lightwell, including Bank of America, BNY, Citi, Goldman Sachs, JPMorganChase, Mastercard, Morgan Stanley, RBC, State Street, Visa and Wells Fargo. This is about acting at the speed of AI with trust, scale, and collaboration across the ecosystem to secure open source for the next generation of innovation. https://lnkd.in/e-7KDwEv 7,999 148Earlier today, IBM, with support from the U.S. Department of Commerce, announced plans to create America's first pure-play quantum wafer foundry. The new company, Anderon, will be purpose-built to manufacture 300mm quantum wafer technology at the scale needed to power the global quantum industry. Quantum computing is the first new computing paradigm in more than 80 years, and it will let us solve problems in chemistry, materials, and optimization that are out of reach today. IBM has spent decades advancing the science and engineering of building quantum computers. We have deployed more than 90 quantum systems around the world, making this technology available to the broadest ecosystem of scientists, developers and creators. We have laid out a clear path to delivering the world's first large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2029. Our hope is that Anderon will be a catalyst to our mission of bringing quantum to an expansive community building the future of computing. The Department of Commerce and IBM are each contributing $1 billion towards Anderon, in addition to the significant intellectual property, infrastructure, and people IBM is contributing to help launch it. This is just the start. Our path on quantum is clear, and today we’re taking an important new step forward. https://lnkd.in/dSQYvuHQ 10.2K 294
