Taking revenue you are not entitled to, from marketplaces you are not entitled to operate in, using content you are not entitled to distribute — all of this is stealing.
We need to start saying so.
During the 2026 Champions League final, GCI measured 16.2 million illegal stream views of 90+ seconds, just within the UK.
During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, GCI measured 174.3 billion illegal stream views of 90+ seconds across the entire tournament, globally.
Across the two events, an average of 92% of advertising on illegal streams promoted unregulated gambling operators.

That is not a fringe problem.
Consumers experience one marketplace. When a fan steps outside the legal sector to watch a match, unregulated gambling operators are waiting at exactly that moment, because illegal streaming has become one of the largest customer acquisition channels unregulated gambling has ever known.
This results in the theft of:
- tax revenue that funds communities;
- sponsorship and media value that belongs to legitimate sport and broadcasters;
- commercial value that belongs to regulated and compliant gambling brands;
- protections and safeguards that only exist inside the regulated sector, with children excluded and the vulnerable, including self-excluded persons, kept safe.
The question for legal stakeholders is not whether the legal sector deserves sympathy for lost revenue.
The question is: what conditions are allowing criminals to acquire our consumers, abuse our youth, steal our money and taxes, and malign our legal industry?
And are we prepared to truly disrupt the ecosystem that enables crime? 13 0Featured in Forbes, revealing how the 2026 FIFA World Cup generated 174.3 billion illegal stream views with 95% carrying advertising for unregulated gambling.
The findings expose how illegal streaming has become a major acquisition channel for the unregulated gambling economy, turning stolen sports content into gambling customers and revenue.
