YouTube quietly replaced the thumbs up and thumbs down on Shorts with a single heart. No way left to say "I don't like this." The dislike button was never for you. It was a data problem for them. 0 0YouTube, LinkedIn, Substack and now Snapchat are cracking down on AI slop. Honestly, this just proves what a lot of us already felt: content that feels generic just doesn't hit anymore. Might be a good time to look at your content strategy before the algorithm makes that decision for you. 4 0I run around four things at once, and three of them barely make money. SocialBu is the real business. Then there are other side projects. Add up what the side projects earn in a month and it wouldn't cover a team dinner. I don't keep them for income. I keep them because they're the cheapest way I have to test an idea in public. A side project is a lab with real users and near-zero politics. I can ship something to JustBlogged on a Sunday, watch how five people actually use it, and know within a week whether the idea is worth it or not. Half of them go nowhere. That's the correct hit rate. A lab where every experiment works isn't a lab really. The mistake is treating a side project like a startup and getting sad when it doesn't become one. It can take time. It can fail. That is normal. Most of mine will never make real money. I'm still not shutting them down. What's the side project you keep for reasons that have nothing to do with revenue? 1 0New Instagram feature: change a post's audio after it's live. Translation: social media managers can now spend an entire afternoon swapping songs on a dead post, fully convinced the reach problem is the music and definitely not the idea. 2 0Quick note about a SocialBu feature that gets ignored because it isn't flashy. When you write a post, you can tailor it per platform before it goes out. Same idea, different wording and format for LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and the rest, from one screen. Why it matters right now: every platform this year is quietly penalizing the identical file blasted to five feeds. 4 1LinkedIn now lets you flag a post as "Seems like AI slop." Long overdue. Feeds have been drowning in generic AI-written posts for months. 3 2Meta's Q2 was basically: ads are printing money, AI infrastructure is eating the table. $59.4b in ad revenue, $75b annual run rate for Advantage+, higher capex floor. For marketers, the signal is clear: AI ads are working. Whether they're affordable long-term is the existential dread part. 6 0Threads is adding private likes, so you can like something without the world seeing. Every platform is slowly admitting the same thing: people behave differently when they're watched. 2 0
